SPOTLIGHT : ANGEL KABA

Extrodinary women, do extrodinary things. Angel Kaba is in fact legendary for her works in choreography, dance teaching, and business, This international Artistic and Creative Director is from Belgium, by way of Congo and St. Martinique. 

At age six, Angel had begun her career in ballet. She then pursued ballet for a following fifteen years. Ms. Kaba attended Music Academy of Brussel in Belgium where she studied music theory, and theater. She received honors in Marketing from a business school in Belgium. 

In 2006, Angel Kaba released her first musical entilted "Elya's Dream," which told the story of a young Black girl's dream themed around the innocence of children and their ability to influence the society. By then, she had already founded her own performance company, Contre-Tendance. Her primary goal is to train artists and to create opportunities for them to express themselves on stage. "Believe in your dreams and try hard to reach them" is the leitmotif she keeps repeating to her company's artists. 


In 2009 Angel struck again, winning a dance competition launched by Nutella in Europe which earned her the chance to fly to New York, where she perfected her training in ballet, street jazz and Hip Hop at the Broadway Dance Center, The Alvin Ailey Extension Peridance Capezio Center and Steps on Broadway. During her New York residency, Angel met and was spotted by her mentor Ms. Robin Dunn F.A.C.E. Coach, a choreographer and dance teacher who has established herself as one of the key community leaders within the entertainment industry today.

A trail blazer herself, Angel has shared stage with artists like Rihanna, Coolio, Orishas, Kaye Styles and others. Other notable experiences she gained involved stage/television/commercial performances and dancing for world renowned brands like Coca Cola, Levi Strauss & Co, Fructis by Garnier, Nutella, Universal.

Angel now lives in between Brussels and New York City, where she is currently working as a dance faculty at Steps on Broadway (https://www.stepsnyc.com/faculty/bio/Angel-Kaba/) and under ED Entertainment, the company of Miss Dunn. She is also the owner of Dance in Tribeca a studio in New York that brings diversity and dance to family and children. (https://www.danceintribeca.com/)

Angel prides herself in the development of collaborative inclusive spaces where she shares her African and Caribbean culture with others while telling her story as a "Black woman." Angel perfected her own dance technique "Ka'frican." Ka'frican dances combines  Hip Hop with Afro Urban dance styles. The establishment of city street dance styles is incorporated as backdrop to the heavily African influenced technique. This dance treatment builds an environment where students dance, have fun and feel free. Angel performs and teaches hip-hop/ragga-dancehall/afro urban master classes all over the world, including Belgium, Germany, Poland, France, Congo DRC, Martinique.
